As some of you know, I've been nursing an IT band problem since the marathon. I haven't been running (so annoying!!!) and have been seeing Dr. Lezlie Maloy at Spring Valley Chiropractic for rehab. Since seeing Dr. Maloy we realized I have a "soft tissue" injury to my right hamstring too... So, I've been taking it easy (hard for an athlete!) and seeing Dr. Maloy each week for ART (active release therapy) as well as running on the ALTRA G treadmill to get me up and running (literally!)
This ALTRA G is incredible -- it supports 15-20% of my body weight as I run. It takes away the pounding on my legs and joints but allows me to still work my stride and muscles the way I would on a jog. I am up to 89% of my body weight with no pain and am doing other normal activities as usual - spinning, elliptical, weight lifting, etc. I am getting there, slowly but surely!!!
It's hard to believe the marathon shredded my body so badly -- especially since I felt so fabulous during training and afterward, too! But, the BIG D was a very hilly course with a lot of "cuts" and few strait-aways. And all my training was done on FLAT roads and long straits -- I simply wasn't prepared for this course. Live and learn I suppose. If I am going to run the White Rock Marathon this winter I need to rest and rehab now -- and come September when training begins, I must remember to include some hill training ;-)
