Cowboys Kickoff Party w/ Tim McGraw

Last week Friday we attended the big Cowboys season kickoff party which featured TIM McGRAW! Hooray!!!! It was at Cowboys stadium and we went with some of Paul's clients so we were in their suite again which was soooo nice! I was super excited to see Tim!!! He was amazing and we had such a great time singing along, drinking and laughing! And I had an excuse to wear my cowboy boots! ;-)

Freedom Run 5k

Last Thursday we grabbed our sneakers and headed downtown to "Let Freedom Run!" It was the annual Freedom Run 5k put on by the Dallas Young Laywers Association. It was started after 9/11 to honor those who lost loved ones during the attack and to raise money for local police force and firefighters. Paul's good friend Bill was the Chair so Paul helped with promoting the race. And it was a GREAT turnout and a lovely evening for a race! After there was a fun band playing, beer tents, BBQ and awards. Our team - Paul, Dustin, Mitch, Derek and myself was 23rd for team awards - ouch! But I was happy with my time- 25mins and I was 8th in my age group, 120th overall. (Not bad for my second run of the day ;-)) I was "trying" to take it easy since I had a big race that coming weekend - Prarie Man Tri on Sunday!

Paul and I preparing to jog!

Getting ready for the 5k!

Our team after the race, grabbing beer!

Labor Day Weekend 2010

Labor Day weekend came fast! I can't believe summer is over and we'll be buying candy for Halloween and purchasing our plane tickets for Thanksgiving soon... Everyone here in Dallas is already in full swing of Fall -- Football parties, denim has hit the scene (I would rather wear sundresses year-round!) and I think I even saw some tall boots. Yes, it is still 90degrees out but the Texan's like to push Fall the way Michiganders push the summer. I remember we would wear flip-flops in April and then another snow storm would hit!
So, saying good-bye to summer is a little easier down here with the warm weather sticking around till early November :-) We probably have weeks left at the pool and lake! Which is exactly what we did over Labor Day! In addition to a few other things...
We started the weekend early by going to a Cowboys pre-season game on Thursday night with some of Paul's good clients. It wasn't a great game -- but we sure had fun in the suite and it was my first time to Cowboys stadium! It is quite amazing like they say!
The next evening we went with some good friends to Arlington to see the show "Defending the Caveman" -- what a hoot!? This one-man act was hilarious! He has shows all over the country (mostly in Vegas) and we were able to see him at a discount because my friend Tina knows his booking agent. Its an act about the differences between men and women -- I laughed the entire time. We ended the night at a Piano bar -- nuff said!
The rest of the weekend we were invited to our friends Debbie and Larry's lake house with some other couples. It is a gorgeous home, right on the lake -- we grilled out, boated, went tubbing, drank, played games, and had fabulous weather to boot! What an amazing weekend!

Junior League Year Begins!

This past week the Junior League of Plano officially "kicked off" with our first General Meeting of the year. It was hosted at the Angelika Theater at the Shops of Legacy - conveniently located to fabulous bars and restaurants for going out! Yay!
So, several of us took advantage of Happy Hour at Cru Wine bar before and indulged in a yummy dinner at Jaspers after the meeting. I'm so excited to kick off the year - let the fun begin ;-) I love these girls!!!!

Tubbin the Great Gaudalupe!

August 24-26 we headed with Dustin and his several of his college friends to the south side of Austin to float down the Great Gaudalupe! It was my first time and what a fun weekend we had! It literally took me 2 days to recover from the lack of sleep, overconsumption of beverages, and insane amount of food! We saw so many funny things floating down the river -- a guy actually had a pony keg floating in a tube next to him!

We stayed in this amazing cottage near the lake that actually had a swimming pool too! We had a couple late night swims, a few bbq's and a few rounds of beer pong in their game room! I definitely learned a some things for next year 1. drink beer on the river instead of vodka. 2. bring my own food if I don't want full fat burgers and a bacon-fest breakfast. 3. Leave on Thursday night to avoid Austin traffic! (it shouldn't take 6-hours to get to Austin!)

Already looking forward to Tubbin 2011!

Restaurant Week...

Last week was the official "Restaurant Week" here in Dallas. Several of the upper-scale, 5-star restaurants offer special three-course, prix-fixe dinners at only $35 per plate! This is available at almost EVERY restaurant in Dallas-Fort Worth and everyone in the area eats out all week to take advantage of the best food deals of the year! The best part is a percentage of the money earned at these participating restaurants goes to the North Texas food bank to help feed families in need. So, while you're scoring some yummy grub at a discounted price you're also giving back! It's a great benefit that has been going on in Dallas for years. I'm happy and excited to take part!
This year we went to The Silver Fox in Frisco with some of my junior legaue girlfriends and their husbands. Silver Fox is a well-known steak place in the area so Paul noshed on an 8oz while I enjoyed some delicious scallops. Among some other great sides and our bottle of pinot noir it made for a lovely night of great food and even better company!

Hottest Half 10K

On August 15th (on the hottest day of the summer...) I ran the hottest half 10K at White Rock Lake. They had a half marathon and 10k race -- in August, in Texas, in 95degrees! Whoa! (It was 88 degrees at start time!)

To my surprise, I felt really strong and ran well -- 6.2 miles in 53:30. Not my best time by far, but pretty darn good given the conditions! Plus, it earned me 58th overall (mens and womens with 600+ runners) AND 5th in my female age group, 80+ runners. I was really happy with the results and I'm excited for race season to begin! However, that means serious training and good-bye to my pinot grigio and vodka tonics for awhile... or, maybe just not as often ;-)

This is my girlfriend Catrina and I before the race. She did the half marathon (crazy chica!!!) I don't have any race pics because our husbands went out for breakfast while we were running! Paul is really getting the hang of this race day thing! He eats while I run! lol!
